The Vision
The Vision of Daybreak is to provide spiritual refreshment and renewal in a quiet and safe enviroment offering:
...welcome and spiritual nurture
...stillness and a reflective space
...spiritual companionship
...opportunities to deepen the spiritual life, encounter God and explore mind/body/spirit connections
Daybreak is a Christian ecumenical ministry located in Central Victoria offering a range of spiritual opportunities to people both within and outside church communities.
The ministry is centred around a retreat house and the opportunities include: spiritual direction, silent retreats, quiet days, specific programs, lectures and children's programs.
The ministry was launched in February 2001. A group of volunteer presenters, trained spiritual directors and helpers, and a committed board of directors has ensured ongoing development of the ministry. The generous support of discounted rent and ongoing use of the Family Care Sisters' property at 22 Lawson St, Spring Gully, provide a sanctuary in a suburban setting for people to come for prayer, quiet, learning, spiritual direction and small group activities.
Many traditional spiritual institutions are experiencing a decline in attendance. Despite this, we know from research and our own day-to-day experiences, that many people are seeking to discover a spiritual dimension to their lives. In addition, well documented research also now acknowledges that a spiritual dimension in a person's life is a protective factor that provides resilience and the foundation for optimal physical and mental health. For many, this discovery is happening outside the traditional church.
People are invited to become members of Daybreak by which they express their support for the vision, and involve themselves as they are able.
Spirituality
The Heart Of The Ministry
The heart of Daybreak is spirituality; being in touch with the inner person and growing in awareness of the Spirit God who comes to persons in the depth of their being. Daybreak is offered as a place for stillness, resting from the pressures of life and finding peace, self-awareness and refreshment.
We live in a noisy, multi-focused world. It is not easy to stop and be quiet in the midst of frenetic activity, yet most would agree that there is a need to step back and be restored inwardly.
